Rights Advocate Comrade Ozobo Austin has thrown his weight behind the renewed agitation for the 13% derivation fund, demanding that the Delta State Assembly probe Governor Sheriff Oborevwori over alleged misappropriation of the 13% derivation funds.

Ozobo, a Niger Delta leading Rights activist, alleged that powerful cartels have commandeered the 13% derivation fund meant for oil-producing states, leaving the region underdeveloped.

The activist’s demand comes amidst allegations of financial misconduct against Governor Oborevwori, including the misappropriation of funds meant for the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) and the Accelerated Agricultural Development Scheme (AADS).

However, the speaker and members of the Delta State Assembly had been urged to investigate these allegations and ensure accountability for the funds.

Ozobo further argued that Niger Delta region deserved better treatment, provision of drinkable water, quality education, steady power supply and good health facilities.

He said the situation of Delta State is alarming following alleged diversion of the 50% of 13% appropriated for development of oil and gas producing areas in the state through the Delta State oil producing areas Development Commission, Desopadec.
