2027: PDP’s Alleged Shortlist of Jonathan, Obi, Makinde Sparks Reactions

By Diafa Doubra,
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing fresh controversy following reports that it has allegedly shortlisted former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as possible flagbearers for the 2027 presidential election.
According to sources, the move is part of early consultations by party stakeholders who are seeking a strong candidate capable of uniting Nigerians and challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). However, the development has triggered debates within the party, with some members questioning the credibility of the list and whether the shortlisted names reflect consensus or personal interests.
Party loyalists loyal to different camps have already begun aligning, while analysts warn that internal divisions could weaken PDP’s chances if not properly managed. Meanwhile, the party leadership has yet to make an official statement, fueling speculations over the authenticity of the shortlist.
Observers say the months ahead will be crucial in determining whether the PDP can resolve its internal rifts and present a united front ahead of 2027.
