21,000 Nigerians to Receive ₦300,000 Interest-Free Loans to Cushion Flood Impact

By Diafa Doubra,
In a renewed effort to support communities affected by devastating floods across Nigeria, the Federal Government has announced an intervention plan to provide ₦300,000 interest-free loans to 21,000 vulnerable Nigerians. The initiative, which forms part of the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) flood recovery programme, is designed to help small holder farmers and households rebuild their livelihoods and sustain food production in affected regions.
According to the NADF Executive Secretary, Dr. Garzali Mohammed, the loan scheme targets farmers who lost crops, livestock, and farm assets during recent flooding incidents in several states. Beneficiaries will receive financial support through registered cooperative groups to ensure transparency and accountability. Dr. Mohammed explained that the interest-free nature of the loan is intended to give farmers a soft landing and encourage rapid recovery without additional financial pressure.
The programme will also focus on training beneficiaries in climate-smart agricultural practices to strengthen their resilience against future disasters. Government officials said the initiative reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to protecting vulnerable Nigerians and ensuring food security amid growing environmental challenges. Many farmers’ associations have lauded the move, describing it as a lifeline for rural communities struggling to recover from the floods.
