Tragedy as landslide kills 3, traps dozens in Pakistan

Tragedy struck as a landslide during a thunder and lightning storm on Tuesday at the main road through northwest Pakistan’s Khyber Pass killed at least three people, buried more than 20 trucks and dozens feared trapped, according to officials.The deputy commissioner of the Khyber district, Abdul Nasir Khan, briefed Reuters that twenty to twenty-five containers were buried in the wreckage.
He further told newsmen that two Afghan citizens had been killed, and authorities were trying to recover the bodies. Three other people had been taken to hospital and the number of casualties could rise.
A third body was pulled out hours later, he asserted.
The landslide took place in the early hours of Tuesday on the main route connecting Pakistan with land-locked Afghanistan, a major transit point for trade between the South Asian nations and into Central Asia.
