Over 15 Die As Boat Capsizes in Sokoto

A boat that capsized in the Dandeji River in Sokoto state has left not less than 15 people dead.

The sad incident happened on Tuesday 9 May 2023.

According to the report, the capsized boat was going to Dandeji in the Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto state.

Alhaji Aliyu Dantani, the council chairman affirmed the incident and asserted that 40 people were on the boat.

He explained that they were going to fetch firewood in a close bush when the sad incident occurred.

Aliyu maintained that the corpse of the deceased was removed and buried according to Islamic rite.

It was reported that some of the passengers swam while others were still missing and searching was ongoing, adding that 17 lifeless bodies were recovered by local canoe drivers.

Recall, on April 2022, the same incident happened at Magana village where 29 teenagers died on their way to get firewood.
