Decades ago, the traditional rulers are highly recognized and placed in a higher value, but presently it seems corruption has ruined their reputation which had made elected executives to ridicule them in all perspective.

It’s not shocking as the executive governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai removed two traditional rulers of Piriga and Arak Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Jonathan Paraguay Zamuna and His Highness, General Iliyah Yammah.

According to Hajiya Umma Ahmad, the state Commissioner of Local Government, he affirmed the removal of the two monarch stating that the traditional rulers cease to hold their respective offices from Monday, 22nd May, 2023.

It was gathered that this is in line with provisions of section 11 of the traditional institutions law No. 21 of 2021.

While the council secretary had been directed to initiate the process for the appointment of new chiefs, Babangida Sule, who is the District Head of Garu Kurama would oversee the affairs of Piriga chiefdom.

A statement by the Commissioner reads that the government found Iliyah Yammah response unacceptable to the query regarding his appointment of four district heads, which is contrary to the approval for his chiefdom.

It was reported that the removal of Jonathan Zamuna followed the recent communal clashes between two communities.

However, the state governor had announced the immediate removal of the two traditional rulers.
