The agreement that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike had with the Abuja chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) over the primary school teachers’ strike that is now taking place in the capital of the country has been made public.
During a meeting with the Area Council Chairmen and FCT graded chiefs on Wednesday in Abuja, the FCT Minister revealed the information.
Dr Adamu Baba Yunusa, the Onah of Abaji and Chairman of the FCT Traditional Council brought the situation in the FCT to Wike’s notice.
Additionally, Yunusa brought up the subject of the striking employees of the FCT Area Councils, NULGE, to the Minister, who replied that the problems had been fixed.
According to the Minister, he met with the NUT and the Area Councils, and they decided that the FCTA would pay off 40% of the debts that the Area Councils owe, which will be paid each month, while the Area Councils will pay the remaining balance.
“The same thing with NULGE. FCTA has taken over 40 percent, and let them pay 60 percent. In the next three, or four months, we would have finished paying; they were all happy.”
