At least four people have been confirmed dead and eight others remain missing after torrential rains unleashed devastating floods and landslides across northern China, authorities said Monday.

The worst-hit areas include Hebei Province, where a landslide in Luanping County buried several homes. In Beijing’s Miyun District, more than 4,400 residents were evacuated after intense rainfall caused flash floods that destroyed homes, disrupted power supply, and overwhelmed local drainage systems.

Rainfall levels reached historic highs over 540mm in 8 hours in parts of Hebei, while inflows to the Miyun Reservoir spiked to their highest level since records began, prompting controlled water releases downstream.

The Ministry of Water Resources issued flood alerts in 11 provinces, while the central government approved 50 million yuan for emergency infrastructure repairs. Experts blamed the disaster on intensified monsoon patterns and climate change, which are straining China’s aging
