Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded another breakthrough in the fight against insecurity with the arrest of a notorious commander of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Okigwe, Imo State.

The operation, carried out over the weekend, also led to the rescue of 12 kidnapped victims across Adamawa, Katsina, and Kogi states. According to military sources, the arrested commander was behind a series of violent attacks and abductions in the South-East region.

Items recovered during the operation included arms, ammunition, and communication gadgets believed to have been used for coordinating attacks. The rescued victims were safely reunited with their families after receiving medical checks.

Security analysts have described the development as a significant blow to IPOB/ESN activities in the region, while the Army has vowed to sustain the tempo of operations to restore peace and security across the country.
