Terror struck a rural community in Zamfara State after bandits launched a violent attack that left a village chief dead and several residents abducted.

According to locals, the armed men stormed the community late at night, shooting sporadically to instill fear before targeting the traditional ruler’s residence. The chief was killed in the attack, while many villagers, including women and children, were whisked away to an unknown location.

Residents say the incident has thrown the community into mourning and heightened fears of further attacks. Many families have fled to neighbouring towns for safety, while those who remain live in constant fear.

Local authorities have condemned the killing, describing it as a grave assault on traditional institutions and communal life. Security operatives have reportedly been deployed to track down the attackers and rescue the abducted victims.

Zamfara, one of the states worst hit by banditry in Nigeria’s northwest, has continued to experience frequent attacks despite ongoing military operations in the region.
