Travellers on the Ibadan Expressway were thrown into shock on Tuesday when a routine police stop-and-search led to a gruesome discovery.

Officers of the Federal Highway Patrol, stationed at the Toll Gate, Ibadan, intercepted a white bus with registration number XA 551 IRG at about 11:30 a.m. A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered what appeared to be human flesh in the possession of a passenger, identified as Alfa Basiru.

Upon interrogation, Basiru allegedly confessed to having purchased the item in Lagos. He has since been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, as forensic experts work to confirm the true nature of the find.

In a separate incident during the same operation, police officers flagged down a Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JX. The driver, however, fled the scene before the vehicle could be searched. The car is now in police custody, with the Command urging anyone with legitimate claims of ownership to present proof at the nearest police station or call +234 808 176 8614.

The Oyo State Police Command emphasised that stop-and-search operations are essential in safeguarding lives and curbing crime.

“These exercises are not horror scenes but deliberate actions to protect innocent lives and maintain public order,” the Command stated.

Authorities have appealed to the public for cooperation and vigilance as security measures along highways are being intensified.
