Benue Ambush: Nigeria Can’t Keep Burying Men in Uniform – Peter Obi

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has condemned the recent ambush in Benue State that left several security operatives dead, warning that Nigeria cannot continue to lose its uniformed men without decisive action.

Obi, in a statement on Monday, described the incident as tragic and a reflection of the worsening security challenges across the country. He stressed that beyond mourning, the government must show greater commitment to securing the lives of both citizens and those who risk everything to protect the nation.

“We cannot continue burying our men in uniform without addressing the root causes of insecurity,” Obi said, urging authorities to provide better welfare and equipment for security forces while also tackling issues fueling violence, such as poverty, injustice, and weak governance.

The Labour Party chieftain further called for urgent reforms in Nigeria’s security architecture, insisting that the nation’s survival depends on restoring peace and confidence in law enforcement.
