National Assembly Shifts Resumption to October 7

By Diafa Doubra,
The National Assembly has postponed its resumption from Tuesday, September 23, to Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
The Clerk to the Assembly, Magaji Tambuwal, confirmed the shift in a statement on Monday but did not provide any reasons for the adjustment. Lawmakers had been expected to reconvene after their annual recess to deliberate on key national issues, including the 2026 budget framework, security challenges, and ongoing constitutional amendments.
The postponement has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians, with some expressing concerns over delays in tackling urgent matters facing the country. Political watchers say the extension might be linked to behind-the-scenes consultations on pressing national debates, though no official explanation has been offered.
This is the second time in recent months that the resumption of plenary has been moved forward, raising questions about the legislature’s preparedness to engage in its core responsibilities.
