FG Moves to Resolve Niger Delta Oil, Gas Field Disputes

By Diafa Doubra,
The Federal Government has commenced verification of disputed and newly drilled oil and gas fields in the Niger Delta as part of efforts to resolve ownership claims and ensure fair revenue sharing among oil-producing states.
RMAFC Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Shehu, who announced the exercise in Asaba, said it will cover fields such as Aneize in OML 143, as well as Eyine and Ameshi. The process will also capture new wells drilled between 2017 and now.
An Inter-Agency Technical Committee made up of RMAFC, NUPRC, OSGOF, and the National Boundary Commission will carry out the exercise across Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Ondo, Edo, and Anambra. Shehu explained that the aim is to ensure transparency in the allocation of the 13 percent derivation fund and reduce disputes among states.
