Low Turnout Trails Voter Registration in South-East, South-South

Despite ongoing nationwide campaigns by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), voter registration in the South-East and South-South zones has continued to record low turnout.

Reports from various registration centres indicate widespread apathy, with many eligible voters showing little interest in participating. Political analysts attribute the poor response to disillusionment over past electoral outcomes, insecurity in some parts of the regions, and lack of trust in government institutions.

INEC officials, however, insist that the commission has provided adequate facilities and urged residents to take advantage of the exercise before it closes. Civil society groups have also raised concerns, warning that the low registration figures could translate into poor voter participation during the next general elections if urgent measures are not taken.
