The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has revealed that tax revenue now contributes about 70 percent of funds shared among the three tiers of government during monthly allocations.

The Executive Chairman of FIRS, Zacch Adedeji, made this known during a media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, highlighting the agency’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s revenue base through improved tax administration and digital innovation.

Adedeji explained that the significant rise in tax contribution reflects the Tinubu administration’s push to reduce dependence on crude oil earnings and diversify national income sources. He noted that enhanced compliance measures, automation, and expansion of the tax net have been key drivers of the achievement.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a fair and transparent tax system that encourages voluntary compliance and supports economic growth.

The FIRS boss commended taxpayers for their cooperation and assured that the agency will continue to simplify processes and ensure that every kobo collected is used for the development of the country.
