A violent clash between rival cult groups in Lagos has left one person dead and five others arrested, according to reports from the Lagos State Police Command.

The incident occurred on Sunday night in the Ikorodu area, a community that has witnessed recurring cult-related violence in recent months. Eyewitnesses said the fight broke out between two notorious groups — the Eiye and Aiye confraternities — leading to chaos and panic among residents as the cultists engaged in a fierce battle for supremacy.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said officers from the command’s tactical unit swiftly responded to distress calls and moved in to restore calm. He disclosed that one of the cultists died from gunshot wounds sustained during the fight, while five suspects were arrested and are currently in custody.

Hundeyin assured that the police remain committed to stamping out cultism and other violent crimes in Lagos, warning youths to shun criminal associations or face the full weight of the law.

Meanwhile, normalcy has returned to the area, though residents are still gripped by fear as security operatives continue patrols to prevent further violence.
