The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on residents to fulfil their civic responsibility by paying taxes promptly to enable the government deliver more developmental projects across the territory.

Speaking during an inspection tour of ongoing projects in Abuja, Wike emphasized that tax compliance is crucial for the sustenance of infrastructure development and effective service delivery. He noted that the government cannot continue to rely solely on federal allocations, stressing that the capital city needs a robust internally generated revenue base to meet its growing infrastructural demands.

Wike assured residents that every naira paid in tax would be judiciously used, highlighting his administration’s commitment to accountability and transparency. He further appealed to business owners and private residents to cooperate with relevant agencies to make Abuja a model city in terms of urban renewal, road construction, and public utilities.

According to the minister, the government’s renewed efforts to improve road networks, schools, and healthcare facilities will only be sustained through consistent tax payments by residents and organizations operating in the FCT.
