FCT Police Boss Redeploys DPO After Viral Assault Video Sparks Public Outrage

The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory, CP Benneth Igweh, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ushafa Division following the circulation of a viral video showing him slapping a young man.

According to Reports , the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, October 22, triggered widespread condemnation from Nigerians on social media who demanded disciplinary action against the officer. In response, CP Igweh described the DPO’s conduct as “unprofessional and unacceptable,” assuring the public that the police under his command will not tolerate acts of brutality or abuse of power.

He further directed the FCT Police Command’s Monitoring Unit to launch a full investigation into the incident to ensure justice is served. The Commissioner also reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining professionalism and accountability within the force, urging officers to uphold citizens’ rights while carrying out their duties.
