The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man identified as Innocent Chukwuma in Oyigbo, Rivers State, for allegedly using his social media platform to advocate for a military coup in Nigeria.

According to reports, Chukwuma made several posts calling for the armed forces to overthrow the democratically elected government, a move the DSS described as a serious threat to national security.

A security source disclosed that the suspect was tracked down after intelligence monitoring of his online activities. “He was arrested without incident and is currently cooperating with investigators,” the source said.

The DSS, in a statement, warned Nigerians to desist from making inciting statements capable of undermining the country’s democratic institutions, stressing that freedom of expression does not cover calls for unconstitutional actions.

Authorities say Chukwuma will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
