The Nigerian military has revealed the identity of one of the officers detained over an alleged coup plot, confirming that a naval officer, Lieutenant Commander B. Abdullahi, is among those currently in custody.
According to reports, the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) is leading the investigation into what has been described as a “breach of national security” involving a network of personnel from different military branches. The officer was said to have been arrested alongside several others whose identities are yet to be disclosed.
Military authorities stated that preliminary findings indicate suspicious communications and movements linked to the alleged plot. While the nature of the plan remains under investigation, officials have dismissed fears of instability, assuring Nigerians that the situation is under control.
Defence spokespersons have emphasized that due process will be followed and that the public will be updated as the probe progresses.
The revelation comes amid growing scrutiny of internal security within the armed forces, as the government continues to stress loyalty, professionalism, and discipline across all ranks.
