Police Deploy Helicopters and Drones Ahead of Anambra Governorship Election
By Diafa Doubra,
Security has been tightened across Anambra State ahead of the upcoming November 8 governorship election, with the Nigeria Police Force announcing the deployment of helicopters, drones, and special tactical teams to ensure a peaceful poll.
According to reports , the state’s Police Commissioner confirmed that aerial surveillance and advanced monitoring equipment would be used to cover all 21 local government areas during the election. The operation, he said, aims to deter violence, protect electoral materials, and safeguard voters.
The security buildup follows growing concerns over possible disruptions by criminal groups and political thugs. Police authorities stressed that the deployment is part of broader efforts to reassure citizens and maintain law and order before, during, and after the election.
“We are fully prepared to guarantee the safety of lives and property,” the Police Commissioner stated. “Our officers are under strict instructions to act professionally and avoid intimidation of any sort.”
He also urged political parties and candidates to caution their supporters against any act capable of breaching the peace, adding that security agencies will respond decisively to any form of lawlessness.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also confirmed that logistics and materials have been distributed to local government areas, as part of final preparations for what is expected to be one of the most closely watched elections in the region.
