China has firmly rejected recent threats made by former U.S. President Donald Trump, insisting that Nigeria remains one of its key strategic partners in Africa. The Chinese government, through its foreign affairs ministry, described Trump’s remarks as “baseless and provocative,” emphasizing that Beijing’s relationship with Nigeria is built on mutual respect, economic cooperation, and shared development goals.

The statement highlighted that China and Nigeria have maintained decades of partnership in trade, infrastructure, and technology, which have contributed significantly to Nigeria’s economic growth. Beijing reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s industrialization agenda, particularly through investments in manufacturing, transportation, and renewable energy.

Political observers believe the response signals China’s determination to strengthen its diplomatic and economic presence in Africa despite rising global tensions. Nigeria, on its part, has yet to issue an official response to the controversy.
