A group of armed men locally known as Lakurawa ambushed the convoy of Jafaru Mohammad Ali Damisa, a member of the House of Representatives representing Borgu/Agwara Federal Constituency, in Niger State on Tuesday.

The attack, which occurred along the Lumma–Babanna road in Borgu Local Government Area, left one soldier dead and several others injured. Witnesses said the heavily armed assailants opened fire on the convoy without warning, forcing security personnel to engage them in a fierce gun battle.

Several vehicles were riddled with bullets, and at least 11 were reported to have been vandalised in the chaos. Although the lawmaker escaped unhurt, some of his aides sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Security operatives have since intensified patrols in the area, while authorities vowed to track down the attackers. The incident highlights the worsening insecurity across parts of northern Nigeria, where bandit groups continue to carry out deadly assaults on travellers and communities.
