Sokoto Police Arrest Man for Alleged Killing of 15-Year-Old Wife

The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, identified as Sufiyanu Aliyu of Gwanyal Village in Tangaza Local Government Area, for the alleged culpable homicide of his 15-year-old wife, Suwaiba Abubakar Bawa.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai, the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on 27 October. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect and his wife had a heated misunderstanding, which escalated and ended tragically.

“Allegedly, the suspect used a knife to inflict fatal injuries on the victim, leading to her death,” Rufai said.

He added that upon receiving the report, police operatives were immediately dispatched to the scene. “The scene was visited, processed, and cordoned off for forensic analysis. The suspect was apprehended at the scene, and a knife, believed to be the weapon used in the commission of the crime, was recovered as an exhibit,” the statement read.

The police confirmed that the victim’s body was taken to hospital, where a medical doctor formally certified her death.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime.

DSP Rufai stated that the case is under investigation and that the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the inquiry.
