Tinubu applauds Lieutenant A.M. Yerima for being bold, strategic during face-off with FCT Minister
By Monday Peters, Abuja
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has thrown his weight behind Lieutenant A.M. Yerima and the Nigerian military, following a heated confrontation between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and senior naval officers in Abuja.
Tinubu emphasized that the military is crucial to Nigeria’s stability and sovereignty, stating, “Our military men and women put their lives on the line daily to defend the sovereignty of this country. They deserve respect, not conflict”.
The President’s stance is seen as a move to reinforce civil-military harmony and discourage politicians from undermining the military’s discipline and chain of command. Tinubu was reportedly displeased by the public altercation between Wike’s convoy and naval officers, which drew widespread criticism on social media.
Tinubu’s backing of Lieutenant Yerima sends a strong message that military personnel performing official duties will not be intimidated or disrespected. The presidency reiterated that every branch of the Armed Forces works under the President’s command, and any misunderstandings should be addressed through proper channels.
This development has sparked a nationwide debate about power abuse and civil-military relations, with many calling for a thorough investigation to prevent future occurrences.
