RIGHTS ADVOCATE EZEKIEL SLAMS IGALI, PANDEF FOR SUPPORTING WIKE’S INSULT ON NAVAL OFFICER
By Osaro Michael, Benin
A leading Ijaw advocate, Hon. Ezekiel Daniel has slammed Ambassador Godkowns Igali, national chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) over their response to FCT Minister Wike’s insult towards the Ijaw people and a naval officer.
However, Daniel praised Lieutenant AM Yerima for his professionalism and doggedness in handling Wike’s attempt to enter a piece of land in Abuja, saying Yerima did the right thing by putting Wike in his place.
“Wike got what he deserves, and it’s a lesson for those who think they’re above the law,” Daniel said, adding that Wike’s actions have brought shame to the nation. Daniel questioned Ambassador Igali’s call for Lieutenant Yerima to apologize to Wike, asking why Igali would ask a commissioned officer to apologize for doing his job.
Daniel also criticized PANDEF for not taking a stronger stance against Wike’s insults towards the Ijaw nation, saying “it’s surprising that Ambassador Igali would ask Lieutenant Yerima to apologize when Wike’s behavior was uncalled for.” He emphasized that respect for the rule of law and men and women in uniform is crucial.
The statement read, “When someone uses their office to intimidate others, thinking they’re above the law, God will surely humble them. Often, it’s not a powerful figure that brings them down, but rather someone in a smaller authority who might not seem significant in their eyes. This is a reminder that no one is above accountability, and those who wield power unjustly will face consequences. The universe has a way of balancing justice, and those who oppress others will eventually face the repercussions of their actions. The mighty may rise, but those who use their power to harm others will fall”.
The incident has highlighted the need for respect for the rule of law and for the men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line every day to protect the nation.
