President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State on Wednesday to commiserate with the state government and reassure the parents and guardians of the kidnapped schoolgirls that the Federal Government is committed to securing their swift release.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu also extended his condolences to the Nigerian military over the death of several soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, who were killed in action while confronting insurgents in Borno State.

The President, who has been fully briefed on both incidents by military authorities, expressed deep sadness over the abduction of the schoolgirls, despite prior intelligence warnings about a possible attack by bandits. He praised Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for efforts made to prevent the kidnapping.

Condemning the security breach that led to the abduction at a boarding school in Maga, Kebbi State, President Tinubu called on communities—particularly those in areas affected by insecurity—to share information and intelligence that could assist the military, police and DSS in safeguarding lives and property.

He stressed that security agencies cannot operate effectively without the cooperation of citizens.

“As Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and our other fallen heroes.

“I am equally distressed that heartless terrorists have disrupted the education of innocent schoolgirls. I have directed security agencies to act swiftly and ensure the girls are rescued and returned safely to Kebbi State.

“Our security forces cannot succeed without the support of the people. I urge community leaders and citizens across the country, especially in operational areas, to share useful information. Your cooperation is vital in overcoming our security challenges,” the President said.
