Chieftain of South-South Forest Security service, Bubor seeks ties with media
By Joseph Bienbo, Warri
The Deputy Commandant of the Nigeria Forest Security Services (NFSS) for the South-South region, Amb. Dr. Capt. Wilson Miller Bubor, has expressed his office’s willingness to work closely with the media and other relevant stakeholders in ensuring that forests in the region are free of criminal elements.
Capt. Bubor made this known during a courtesy call by a delegation of the Ijaw Publishers’ Forum (IPF) in his office on Tuesday in Warri. He expressed profound appreciation to the Ijaw Publishers’ Forum (IPF) for deeming it necessary to pay his office a courtesy visit, pledging stronger collaboration with the media as the new security outfit intensifies efforts to reclaim Nigeria’s forests from terrorists, bandits, criminal herdsmen, kidnappers, and other criminal gangs.
Capt. Bubor, who also served as the Executive Chairman of Makaraba Community in the Chevron Nigeria Limited operated OML 79, commended the IPF for what he described as a “timely and patriotic reportage of news.” He assured that the NFSS would maintain an open-door relationship with credible homegrown media organisations to ensure accurate reportage of its operations.
“We are at the beginning of a defining national assignment, and the media remains a critical partner in shaping public understanding of our work. I deeply appreciate your visit and assure you that we will collaborate closely,” he said.
Responding, IPF President Comrade Austin Ozobo thanked Capt. Bubor for hosting the delegation despite his demanding schedule, describing the interaction as a key step toward fostering transparency and public trust in forest-security operations. Also in Ozobo’s entourage was Comrade Oyinbi Charles Onduku, the National Vice President of the IPF, Prince Dr. Peretengboro Klintin Bibaikefie, Assistant Secretary of the IPF, and MMD Tam Okunbiri who is also a critical stakeholder in the IPF.
As the newly inaugurated Forest Security Service prepared for large-scale deployment across critical forest belts nationwide, Capt. Bubor reiterated the Service’s commitment to professionalism, intelligence-driven operations, and strong partnerships with the media to counter misinformation and strengthen national security.
He emphasized that effective communication will be essential in mobilising public support for the Service’s mission of ridding forests of violent extremists, illegal loggers, kidnappers, and other criminal networks threatening Nigeria’s stability.
