Joshua Released ‘Heavy Hearted’ After Fatal Crash
By Micheal Chukwuebuka
British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, deemed “clinically fit” but emotionally devastated, after a fatal crash claimed two friends’ lives.
The heavyweight former world champion was released from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, on Wednesday, after the 29 December 2025 crash killed Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami.
Lagos and Ogun state governments expressed “deepest commiserations” to the families, saying: “We pray The Almighty grant the repose of their souls”.
Joshua, 35, was “heavy hearted and full of emotions” upon discharge. He and his mother paid final respects to the deceased at a Lagos funeral home.
The governments thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his “fatherly support” and praised Lagoon Hospital’s “commendable” care. Joshua is now recuperating privately, as the focus shifts to the grieving families.
