APC Party Membership E-Registration: A Test for internal party democracy.

A controversy has erupted in Zamfara State over the ongoing membership e-registration exercise of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with allegations of exclusion and marginalization of certain factions within the party.

The leader of the Wamban Shinkafi Democratic Front, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has written to the National Chairman of the APC, alleging that the state chapter of the party has directed local government chairmen and ward chairmen to exclude his supporters from the e-registration exercise.

In a letter dated January 10, 2026, Shinkafi claimed that the exclusion was a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise his supporters and prevent them from participating in the party’s internal democracy.

The situation has raised concerns about the fairness and transparency of the e-registration exercise, with allegations that the state chapter of the party is manipulating the process to favor certain individuals.

Shinkafi’s supporters have been allegedly excluded from the exercise, sparking fears of party factions and disunity among the ranks and files of APC members in Zamfara State.

Sources close to the party have alleged that the Minister of State for Defence, Hon. Bello Matawalle, is behind the exclusion of Shinkafi’s supporters from the e-registration exercise.

The move has been seen as a bid to consolidate power within the party and silence opposition voices.

Dr, Shinkafi has called for an independent and transparent investigation into the matter, urging the National Chairman of the APC to take immediate action to address the situation.

He warned that if the issue is not addressed, it could lead to further divisions within the party and undermine the credibility of the e-registration exercise.

The controversy comes at a time when the APC is trying to revamp its image and demonstrate its commitment to internal democracy and transparency.

The party’s reputation is at stake, and it remains to be seen how the National Chairman will address the situation.
