Police Officer Arrested Over ‘Friendly Fire’ Incident in Port Harcourt

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Inspector Victor Okus, who allegedly shot and killed a colleague and critically injured another in a ‘friendly fire’ incident.

The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 1:20 pm at the Next Cash and Carry Supermarket on Trans-Amadi Road, Port Harcourt, where the officers were on joint guard duty with military personnel.

Inspector Ibrahim Sani died from his injuries, while Inspector Daniel Dauda remains in critical condition receiving hospital treatment.

The police command’s PRO, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that Inspector Okus, attached to the 17 Police Mobile Force, has been arrested and is in custody.

Rivers State Police Commissioner, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered a full investigation and vowed that the suspect will face trial and prosecution. The command extends condolences to the family and colleagues of the late Inspector Sani.
