A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual battery involving a student of Florida Memorial University, after investigators said DNA evidence linked him to the incident.

According to authorities, surveillance footage captured the suspect jumping over a campus fence shortly before the alleged assault took place.

Police disclosed that during the arrest, video recordings showed the suspect inappropriately touching the lead detective as she was holding a door, an act which officers described as further misconduct.

Investigators also revealed that the suspect had only recently been released from prison and has a criminal history that includes offences related to lewd and lascivious behaviour.

A judge set the suspect’s bail at approximately $500,000, imposed a strict no-contact order with the victim, and prohibited him from entering the university campus. He remains in custody after failing to post bond.

Authorities have indicated that there may be additional victims and are appealing to anyone with relevant information to come forward.
