FOCALPOINT Reports has alleged that the hardship, extortion and humiliation faced daily by Nigerians at National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) centres are the result of a coordinated corruption network operating under official cover.

According to the investigation, fraudsters and so-called “agents” openly operate around NIMC offices, intercepting applicants and demanding illegal fees, while authorised offices remain inaccessible. These agents allegedly work with insiders, who delay or frustrate applicants that insist on paying official rates.

The report notes that excuses such as network failure, lack of power or manpower are routinely used to push citizens into the hands of extortionists, even as essential services like JAMB and NYSC registrations are disrupted by suspended NINs.

Findings from Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State further raise concerns about unregulated enrolment outlets, lack of transparency, and possible data manipulation.

FocalPoint Reports has called on the Nigeria Police Force and anti-corruption agencies to launch a nationwide probe, warning that NIMC risks becoming a symbol of institutionalised exploitation unless decisive action is taken.
