Delta Community cries out over dilapidated school buildings, lack of teachers, social amenities
By Joseph Bienbo, Warri
The Orubgene Community Primary School in Burutu Local Government Area is facing a severe crisis, with only two teachers handling all classes, compromising the quality of education for pupils. The school buildings are also in disrepair, posing safety risks to students and staff.
Local residents, including Ebiarede Gas Oyakemefeyegha, are calling for urgent intervention from authorities such as the Delta State primary Education board, Burutu LGA chairman, NGOs, and well-meaning individuals and representatives of the area in the Senate, House of representatives and State Houses of Assembly.
The community, however, appealed for more qualified teachers to be posted to the school, renovation and rehabilitation of the school buildings, provision of basic learning facilities and materials.
The community emphasised that education is key to development and their children deserve a safe and supportive learning environment.
The statement reads, “We wish to draw the urgent attention of the Chairman, relevant authorities, education stakeholders, NGOs, and well, meaning individuals to the deplorable condition of Orubgene Community Primary School in Burutu Local Government Area, they emphasised.
“The school currently has only two teachers handling all classes, which is grossly inadequate and negatively affecting the quality of education and learning outcomes of the pupils. In addition to the shortage of teachers, the school buildings are in a very poor state, posing serious risks to the safety, health, and morale of both pupils and teachers”, the community noted.
“Education is the foundation of any meaningful development, and the children of the Orubgene community deserve access to a safe learning environment and qualified teaching staff like every other child.
We therefore appeal urgently for:
The immediate posting of more qualified teachers
Renovation and rehabilitation of the school buildings
Provision of basic learning facilities and materials”, Oyakemefeyegha added.
“This is a sincere call for intervention to save the future of our children and strengthen education in the Orubgene community.
An investment in education today is an investment in a better tomorrow”, the community added.
