Budget Defence: Reps Reschedules Plenary Resumption To March 5

The House of Representatives has rescheduled its planned resumption for today, February 24 to Thursday March 5, 2026.

This was contained in a statement signed by the House Spokesperson,
Hon. Akin Rotimi Jr on Tuesday.

It reads,”The House of Representatives hereby informs Honourable Members, stakeholders, and the general public that plenary, earlier scheduled to resume on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, has been rescheduled.

“This development was conveyed through an Internal Memorandum issued on Monday, February 23, 2026, by the Acting Clerk of the House of Representatives, Mr. Ibrahim Sidi, titled “Notice of Postponement of Plenary Session.”

“Accordingly, the House will now resume plenary on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

“The adjustment is necessitated by the ongoing 2026 Budget Defence sessions by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), which remain substantially incomplete. The rescheduling is intended to allow Standing Committees sufficient time to conclude their engagements and ensure thorough legislative scrutiny of the budget proposals”.

The statement quoted the directive As stated in the memo.

It stated, “In light of the ongoing 2026 Budget Defence by Ministries, Departments and Agencies, which remains substantially incomplete, the Leadership of both Houses hereby directs the postponement of plenary sittings to allow Committees conclude their budget defence accordingly.

“The Leadership regrets any inconvenience this adjustment may cause and urges Honourable Members to utilise the intervening period to further refine and strengthen discourse on the ongoing Budget Defence.”

Hon. Rotimi Jr added, “The House of Representatives remains committed to a transparent, and comprehensive budget review process in the national interest and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all concerned”.
