Kano State Government Inaugurates 24 Man Distribution Committee For Singa Market Fire Victims

No fewer than five thousand persons are reported to have been affected by the recent inferno at Singa Market in Kano, which destroyed some sections of the market. In response, the Kano State Government has inaugurated a 24-member committee, chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, to oversee the distribution of donations to the affected traders.
Aisha Uba Ali reports that the 24-member committee with only one woman and a 98 year old representative of the traditional institution has been entrusted with a responsibility that demands fairness, transparency, and justice. Their assignment is to coordinate the distribution of donations of relief items to affected traders.

The Kano State Government, through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, says measures are in place to ensure that the donations reach the rightful beneficiaries.
Speaking after the inauguration, the representative of the committee chairman and Commissioner for Justice, Kano state, Abdulkarim Kabiru Mode, says the committee has a clear mandate and will deliver within a short time frame .
With members drawn from anti-graft and religious institutions as well as security agencies, among others, the committee has assured traders of fairness and equity in the distribution exercise.
Meanwhile, residents have been urged to use the holy month to pray for peace and sustained progress in the state.
