NUJ Crisis: SWC Passes Vote of No Confidence on Delta Chairman, Clears 3 Chairmanship Aspirants
By Joseph Bienbo, Warri
The Delta State Working Committee (SWC) of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has passed a vote of no confidence on State Chairman Comrade Churchill Oyowe, citing gross misconduct and abuse of power. The vote, signed by six SWC members, alleges Oyowe’s persistent disregard for the committee’s authority and resolutions.
The SWC’s action follows a meeting on March 14, 2026, where they cleared three chairmanship aspirants, including Okakuro Akpokona Omafuaire, to participate in the election scheduled for March 16, 2026. The committee emphasised that all 32 Warri Correspondents’ Chapel members are eligible to vote.
The SWC disowned any contrary correspondence issued by Oyowe, stating it doesn’t reflect the collective decision of the committee.
They urged members to conduct themselves peacefully during the election.
