End of an Era: Salah Prepares to Leave Liverpool at End of 2025–26 Season
By Micheal Chukwuebuka
Mohamed Salah has confirmed he will leave Liverpool FC at the end of the 2025–26 campaign, bringing an end to one of the most successful and iconic spells in the club’s modern history.
In an emotional statement, the Egyptian forward announced his decision, saying: “Unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.”
Liverpool also released an official statement confirming that Salah has reached an agreement with the club to conclude his nine-year stay at Anfield this summer. The club noted that the forward chose to make his decision public early out of “respect and gratitude” to supporters, ensuring transparency about his future.
Salah joined Liverpool from AS Roma in the summer of 2017 and quickly established himself as one of the greatest players in the club’s history. During his time on Merseyside, he has played a pivotal role in a period of sustained success, helping the Reds secure two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, two League Cups and the FA Community Shield.
The forward’s remarkable consistency in front of goal has seen him score 255 goals in 435 appearances, placing him third on Liverpool’s all-time goal scoring chart. He has also registered 118 assists, contributing to a combined 373 goal involvements across his nine seasons.
Individually, Salah’s achievements have been equally impressive. He has won the Premier League Golden Boot on four occasions, alongside multiple honours including three PFA Player of the Year awards, three FWA Footballer of the Year titles, and two Premier League Player of the Season awards. He has also claimed the Premier League Playmaker of the Season twice and the prestigious FIFA Puskás Award.
Despite the announcement, Salah remains focused on the remainder of the current campaign, with Liverpool still competing for honours. The club stated that full celebrations of his legacy will take place later in the year when he formally bids farewell to Anfield.
Salah’s departure will mark the end of a defining era for Liverpool, with the Egyptian widely regarded as not only a club legend but also one of the finest players in Premier League history.
