By Chukwunonso Eric, Warri.
The Delta State Police Command has recorded fresh operational successes with the arrest of two suspected armed robbers and motorcycle snatchers, alongside the recovery of a firearm, live ammunition, and a suspected stolen vehicle.
The Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Yemi John Oyeniyi, disclosed that the achievements were part of its ongoing proactive policing strategy aimed at combating crime across the state.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, police operatives attached to the Agbor Division apprehended two suspects on March 31, 2026, at about 7:45 p.m. during a routine stop-and-search operation at College Junction in Agbor.
The suspects, identified as Julius Godday, 31, and Mzemeke Peter, 28, were intercepted while riding a motorcycle. Upon sighting the police, they reportedly attempted to flee but were swiftly pursued and arrested.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled gun loaded with two live cartridges. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are alleged members of the Eiye confraternity and have been linked to a series of motorcycle snatching incidents within the area.
Police sources further confirmed that the suspects have confessed to the crimes and are currently in custody. The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Asaba for further investigation and possible prosecution.
In a related development, operatives of the Sapele Division recovered a suspected stolen vehicle laden with vandalised items following a tip-off from a concerned resident.
The incident, which occurred on March 30, 2026, involved a Toyota Sienna bus reportedly conveying items such as iron cuts and a gas cylinder suspected to have been vandalised. Acting swiftly on the information, a patrol team was deployed to the scene.
On sighting the police, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush. The vehicle was subsequently recovered and taken to the police station, while investigations have commenced to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Commissioner of Police Oyeniyi commended the operatives for their swift response and reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities across Delta State. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to support ongoing security operations.
The Command assured that efforts are being intensified to ensure the safety of lives and property, while all suspects found culpable will be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
