The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has confirmed that its national elections will hold on April 13, 2026, as previously scheduled. The decision was made at an expanded National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on April 9, 2026, at Ijaw House, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The NEC meeting, attended by top officials, including the President and Leader of Congress, Members of the Board of Trustees, and Traditional Rulers, reviewed the Electoral Committee’s (ELECO) report and expressed satisfaction with their preparedness for the elections.

The meeting emphasised ELECO’s independence in conducting the elections and clarified the roles of various Congress organs. The Conference of Ijaw Traditional Rulers and Elders (CITRE) and the Board of Trustees (BOT) are advisory bodies, with limited roles in election matters.

The INC has urged the public to disregard any conflicting information, and support the forthcoming elections. The elections are expected to be a significant event in Ijaw politics, with various stakeholders looking forward to the outcome.
