The Amaseikumor Festival has concluded today 11th April, 2026 in Delta State, marking a week-long cultural and spiritual celebration in Oporoza, the traditional headquarters of the Gbaramatu Kingdom. The festival’s grand finale featured the revered Amaseikumor masquerade, a symbolic figure believed to bring peace and blessings to the Gbaramatu Kingdom and the Ijaw nation.

The event was the culmination of the Gbaraun Egbesu Annual Festival, a three-day religious and cultural observance dedicated to Egbesu, the principal deity of the Ijaw people. Thousands of devotees, traditional rulers, and cultural enthusiasts gathered at the Gbaraun Egbesu Temple, showcasing the deep-rooted reverence for Egbesu and the festival’s significance in promoting spiritual renewal, cultural preservation, and communal unity.

The highlight of the festival was the colourful outing of the Egbesu Owu (Egbesu Masquerade), a sacred performance rich in ritual symbolism and traditional expressions. The event underscored the cultural depth and identity of the Ijaw people, attracting attention within and beyond Ijaw land.

The Amaseikumor Festival has been praised for its role in promoting Ijaw unity and peace, drawing together locals and the diaspora. The event has also boosted local tourism and economic activities, with traders, artisans, and hospitality providers experiencing increased patronage.
