Delta Police Foil Kidnap Plot, Arrest Drug Baron in Statewide Crackdown

The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant operational successes in its ongoing statewide crackdown on crime, foiling a suspected kidnap plot and dismantling key drug networks through coordinated raids.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command disclosed that the operations led to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of large quantities of illicit drugs across multiple locations.

On April 15, 2026, at about 10:23 p.m., operatives of the Otorerokpe Division, acting on intelligence, stormed a drug hideout in Ugholo community. During the raid, a 33-year-old suspect, identified as Justina Onokpasa, was apprehended.

Police recovered substantial exhibits from the scene, including two large bags and 300 small cans of substances suspected to be Canadian loud, 30 bottles of CSC codeine, 10 sachets of tramadol, two sachets of ‘Super Royal’ (Redboy), 12 sachets of Swinol, 12 pieces of molly drugs, and 400 empty distribution cans believed to be used for packaging and distribution.

Authorities noted that the suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the drug network.

In a related development, on April 16, 2026, at about 11:45 a.m., operatives of the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) carried out another targeted raid on drug hotspots in Abraka, resulting in the arrest of three suspects.

During the operation, large quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs were recovered. The suspects are also in custody, with further investigations underway.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the efforts of the operatives, describing the operations as a major step in curbing criminal activities in the state.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining the momentum of ongoing operations and urged residents to support the police by providing timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.

The Command emphasized that all suspects found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law as part of efforts to ensure public safety and dismantle criminal networks across Delta State.
