Delta Police Arrest Seven Suspects, Recover Firearms and Live Cartridges in Separate Operations

The Delta State Police Command has intensified its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities across the state, leading to the arrest of seven suspects and the recovery of firearms and live ammunition in separate intelligence-led operations.

The Command disclosed the development in a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on Friday in Asaba.

According to the statement, operatives attached to the Command’s Anti-Cult Unit carried out a raid on a suspected criminal hideout at Eku-Igun community in Ethiope West Local Government Area on May 11, 2026, at about 2:30 a.m.

During the operation, six suspects alleged to be members of an unlawful society were arrested. Security operatives also recovered one locally made single-barrel gun, one double-barrel locally made pistol, and two live cartridges from the suspects.

Police authorities stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the suspects’ possible involvement in recent cult-related killings and other violent crimes reported in Eku, Igun, Abraka, and surrounding communities.

The Command added that efforts are being intensified to track down other fleeing members of the gang.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Safe Delta team attached to the Head Bridge nipping point intercepted a suspect identified as Mokwunye Prince Jerry, 32, during a routine stop-and-search operation on May 13, 2026, at about 3:40 p.m.

The suspect, who was riding a motorcycle with a sack bag, was searched by the operatives, leading to the recovery of six packets of live cartridges.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly claimed to be a member of a hunters’ and vigilante group in Ibusa. He further stated that the ammunition was allegedly meant to be collected on the instruction of one Anthony, who is currently at large.

The Police noted that investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers involved and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism, illegal possession of firearms, and other violent crimes across the state.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to assist security agencies in combating criminal activities and improving public safety in Delta State.
