NDC Primaries: Party Leaders Raise Alarm Over Alleged Moves to Destabilise Exercise Ahead of Nationwide Elections

Warri, Delta State — Tensions have emerged ahead of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries scheduled for Friday, May 29, 2026, as party stakeholders allege attempts by external actors to infiltrate and destabilise the internal electoral process.

A senior party figure within the Nigeria Democratic Congress has issued a strong warning over what he described as the alleged involvement of individuals linked to the opposition All Progressives Congress in efforts to create confusion ahead of the primaries.

Speaking anonymously, the party chieftain cautioned against what he termed “security contractors allegedly working on behalf of political interests” to disrupt the conduct of a peaceful and credible primary election across the country.

According to the source, concerns have also been raised over alleged lobbying activities involving a serving APC House of Representatives member from Delta South, who is accused—by party insiders—of attempting to influence the NDC leadership structure in favour of undisclosed interests.

The allegations further suggest that certain individuals are attempting to secure strategic party positions through undue influence, including what was described as efforts to impose placeholder candidates and bypass internal opposition within the party.

“It is unfortunate that some actors are allegedly engaging in covert activities aimed at manipulating the process. We urge the leadership of the NDC to be vigilant and avoid falling into the hands of political moles or financially induced influences,” the source said.

The party chieftain also warned against what he described as disguised contributions presented as development levies, cautioning that such moves could be used to compromise the integrity of the primaries if not carefully managed.

Despite the allegations, party stakeholders insist that the NDC primaries remain scheduled to proceed as planned, with assurances that measures are being taken to safeguard the process and ensure internal democracy is maintained.

Efforts to obtain official responses from the individuals and parties mentioned were not immediately successful as of the time of filing this report.
