Court Remands Four Suspected Gun-Running Syndicate Members Over Firearm Recovery in Delta

The High Court of Delta State, sitting in the Asaba Judicial Division, has remanded four suspected members of an alleged gun-running syndicate in connection with the recovery of a Beretta pistol at a transport park in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill, and Amadi Felix Chibuike, were arraigned before the court following investigations by the Delta State Police Command into the illegal procurement, movement, and distribution of firearms across state boundaries.

According to the Police Command, the suspects were arrested in separate intelligence-led operations carried out in Bayelsa and Imo states after investigators linked them to the firearm recovered at the Effurun transport park on April 26, 2026.

Following the conclusion of investigations, prosecutors filed a five-count charge against the defendants, bordering on unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, conspiracy, and alleged membership of a proscribed cult group.

The charges include unlawful possession of a firearm contrary to provisions of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, unlawful possession of a fabricated Beretta pistol, possession of four rounds of live 9mm ammunition, conspiracy to belong to an unlawful society, and alleged membership of the proscribed Black Axe Confraternity, contrary to relevant Delta State laws.

After hearing the matter, the court ordered that the four defendants be remanded in custodial custody pending further proceedings.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to combat the proliferation of illegal firearms, cultism, and other violent crimes across the state.

The police chief assured residents that law enforcement authorities would continue to pursue and prosecute criminal elements while sustaining efforts aimed at protecting lives and property.

He further disclosed that investigations are ongoing and that efforts are being intensified to apprehend other suspects believed to be connected to the case who remain at large.

The Delta State Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety and strengthening intelligence-driven operations to dismantle criminal networks operating within and beyond the state.
