Delta Police Begin Statewide Enforcement Against Unregistered, Concealed Vehicle Number Plates

The Delta State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement exercise targeting vehicles operating without registration number plates as well as those with concealed, altered, defaced, or otherwise unreadable registration numbers.

The initiative, according to the Command, is in compliance with a directive issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and is aimed at improving public safety, strengthening crime prevention efforts, and enhancing the ability of security agencies to identify and track vehicles involved in criminal activities.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command noted that vehicles operating without proper registration or with obscured number plates pose significant security challenges, as they are difficult to trace and are often exploited by criminal elements seeking to evade detection.

The police therefore advised all vehicle owners and operators across the state to ensure their vehicles are duly registered and that registration plates remain clearly visible at all times. Motorists were also urged to remove any stickers, covers, frames, devices, or materials that may obstruct the visibility of their registration numbers and to immediately regularize vehicles operating without valid number plates.

The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, and patrol teams across the state to strictly enforce the directive.

According to the Command, any vehicle found operating without approved registration plates or with tampered registration details will be stopped, impounded, and subjected to appropriate legal procedures in line with existing laws.

To ensure effective implementation of the exercise, the Commissioner of Police has also mandated the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to coordinate, supervise, and monitor enforcement activities across Delta State, with emphasis on professionalism and uniformity.

The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stating that the enforcement exercise forms part of broader proactive measures aimed at maintaining law and order and creating a safer environment for residents throughout the state.

The Command further appealed to members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement officers and comply with all vehicle registration requirements to avoid sanctions during the ongoing operation.
