Delta Police Commissioner Emphasizes Collective Responsibility at State Security Summit

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, has reaffirmed the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in addressing security challenges, as he delivered a keynote lecture at the Delta State Strategic Security Summit held in Asaba.

The summit, convened by the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, took place at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, bringing together top government officials, security agencies, community leaders, and civil society organisations to deliberate on strengthening security architecture across the state.

CP Oyeniyi presented a lecture titled “Security: A Collective Responsibility – The Roles of Government, Communities and Civil Society Organisations in Security Management,” where he stressed that sustainable peace and safety can only be achieved through coordinated efforts among all stakeholders.

He emphasized that security management extends beyond the responsibilities of law enforcement agencies, noting that proactive community engagement, effective governance, and active participation of civil society are critical in preventing crime and maintaining public order.

According to him, stronger synergy between government institutions, security agencies, and local communities remains essential in addressing emerging security threats and ensuring continued development across Delta State.

The event highlighted the state government’s commitment to enhancing security cooperation and promoting strategic dialogue aimed at sustaining peace and stability in all parts of the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, ANIPR, FCIA, FIPMD, the lecture was described as a significant contribution to ongoing efforts to improve security awareness and collaboration in Delta State.

The summit concluded with renewed calls for partnership among all sectors in tackling insecurity and building a safer environment for residents.
