Delta Police Impound 26 Vehicles in Asaba Over Registration Violations

The Delta State Police Command has impounded 26 vehicles in Asaba for violating vehicle registration regulations, as part of a statewide enforcement drive aimed at enhancing security and ensuring compliance with traffic laws.

The exercise, personally led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, on Friday, June 19, was carried out in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, banning the use of vehicles without registration number plates and those displaying concealed, altered, defaced, obscured, or otherwise unreadable plates.

According to the Delta State Police Command, the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety, improve vehicle identification, and support crime prevention across the state.

During the enforcement exercise conducted within Asaba and its environs, 26 vehicles found to be operating in contravention of existing vehicle registration regulations were impounded. The affected motorists were subsequently arraigned before a Mobile Court sitting in Asaba to answer for the relevant offences.

Addressing motorists during the operation, CP Oyeniyi urged vehicle owners to comply with registration requirements and ensure that approved number plates are properly displayed at all times. He emphasized that the exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to enhance security and enforce adherence to the law.

The Commissioner warned that the enforcement campaign would be sustained across Delta State and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to ensure strict implementation of the directive across all Area Commands, Divisions, and tactical formations.

He further reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-driven policing strategies aimed at protecting lives and property throughout the state.

The police urged motorists yet to regularize their vehicle registration documents and number plates to do so promptly to avoid sanctions as the enforcement operation continues across Delta.
