Delta Police Arrest Four Suspected Kidnappers, Armed Robbers, Recover Locally Made Pistol

The Delta State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its ongoing war against crime with the arrest of four suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, as well as the recovery of a locally made firearm in separate operations across the state.

The Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, said the arrests underscore its commitment to combating criminality and ensuring the safety of residents.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, two suspected armed robbers were arrested on June 23, 2026, following an attempted robbery incident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects had unlawfully gained access into a residential compound but fled upon noticing the presence of occupants. However, the vigilance and swift intervention of members of the community led to the apprehension of the suspect and an accomplice, who were subsequently handed over to the police.

Acting on intelligence obtained during preliminary investigations, operatives of the Ugborikoko Division conducted a search of the suspects’ residence and recovered a locally made pistol concealed inside a wardrobe.

The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to determine their possible involvement in other criminal activities within the state.

In a separate operation, operatives of the ‘A’ Division, Ughelli, in collaboration with local vigilante members, arrested two suspected kidnappers linked to a failed abduction attempt that occurred on June 19, 2026.

The suspects, identified as Iliyasu Hassan, 16, and Idris Abdulkarim, 32, were apprehended on June 22 at about 8:30 p.m. after emerging from a nearby forest to purchase food and medication.

Police investigations further revealed that a victim of an earlier kidnapping incident positively identified the two suspects as among those involved in his abduction.

The suspects are currently in custody, while efforts have been intensified to track down other members of the criminal gang and recover weapons allegedly used in their operations.

Commending the vigilance of residents and the synergy between community stakeholders and security agencies, CP Yemi Oyeniyi urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the police.

The Commissioner reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and sustaining the ongoing fight against crime across Delta State.
